Ahmet Ergun’s culinary career began early on, inspired by his Kurdish family and their love and respect for quality and tradition in culinary arts. After quitting school into his first year of college at the age of 19, Ahmet sought opportunities to further develop his own creativity in the hospitality industry.
Ahmet’s culinary and entrepreneurial repertoire flourished during his early tenure in a family owned restaurant, where he developed and refined his entrepreneurial and culinary techniques. He then played a critical role in opening the family’s first hotel in one of Istanbul’s most famed neighborhoods, where he served as the owner-operator. It was at Ocean 7 Hotel & Ocean 7 Restaurants Group where he extended his skills to all outlets of the hotel and restaurant business, pleasing the palettes of Istanbuls’s most exclusive clientele. After spending 7 years with the Oceans 7 Group, Ahmet went on to take the role of Sous Chef at local restaurants in the US, working and learning from industry leaders of Chicago.
Ahmet then opened Pera Turkish Kitchen & Bar in the spring of 2017, a restaurant fully dedicated to Turkish Fine Dining. Located in one of Chicago’s most prominent neighborhoods, East Lakeview Broadway, Pera has a menu full of unique flavors, as well as, a rich list of Turkish wines.
A dedicated chef, restaurant owner-operator Ahmet has since established himself as an authority within the culinary industry in Chicago. His restaurant has also participated in multiple Food and Wine Festivals, both nationally and internationally, including numerous wins and recognition awards.
Currently, serving as a vice president on the board of a local nonprofit, Ahmet also uses his passion to channel his hospitality expertise for the aid of those in need by contributing to local organizations on a regular basis.
